The Average Lifespan of Your Relationships

its been a nutty week .

3 Scuba Musketeers : Episode thousandand ninety-ish:
I managed to catch up with Dot Dot and Sunshine at HT's cafe on monday evening. The journey alone to JTC Summit from the CBD already knocked out all the strength from my wallet..lucky HT was generous with his discounts! ha ha ha love you all babes.. but next time can i ta pao u guys deliver? im still recovering from the cabfare home from "bird no lay egg" Jurong Town :P

"Burnt" Wings - well they aren't burnt they just looked burnt. Actually they're rather tasty despite the way they look actually contemplated ordering more
Fresh cut dipped and fried Calamari..definitely tasted different from other cafes.

It was great catching up with Dot and Sunshine. Can you imagine ? we havent been diving TOGETHER for almost a whole year? How did that happen? well with mismatched work schedules, different dive adventures. C'est la vie.

Neeways the conversation got to Dot and HT, how it's a new relationship going on strong etc. We got to talking about the men in our lives - the male leads, vs the part time actors those that are just passing by. When dot revealed this UBER COOL formula that can potentially help us calculate the average lifespan of your relationships !

Total No. of months of serious
relationships you've had your
entire life
________(divided by)___________ = Average Lifespan of Your Love Life
No. of real relationships/men
your entire life

So if you have had 3 serious relationships , each spanning different amounts of time , add up the month example

10 months + 9 months + 7 months
________(divided by)___________ = 8.6 months
3 guys

So this would mean that 8.6 months is the average lifespan of your relationships..if you survive 8.6 months with a guy..chances that he is THE ONE is higher?

hmmmmm....mabbe we just drank too much tea whahhahaha wat do you think happie gupsters?

Other than the above get together the week's been pretty much a mad whirlwind rush . The usual conference calls after work. went to a booze session ( supposed to be an initiation session for newbies with the mangement) i worked hard and launched a few new stuff at work. If Guppy can cook, so can You :D

AOL's Horoscopes site - Seduction by the Stars states :
" The fastest way to a Cancer Man's heart is through his stomach" ha ha ha ..methinks this is true for all men , not just those that are crabbily inclined :P

Neeways, it had been some time since I whipped up a little home cooked meal. There seldom was the time, nor the crowd to do so :) today guppy had company ;) so off i went to the supermarket to buy all the ingredients i needed.
And if you ever had my tasty baked salmon, stay tuned, I shall reveal the secret to this amazing dish in this very blog...read on!

First we plan the menu :
Entree : Assorted Cheese platter with crackers
Side : Garden Vegetable Salad with Italian Dressing / Baked Potato Countrystyle
Main : Baked Salmon with fresh Avocado Slices
Dessert : Chocolate Obsession Icecream Medley
paired with 2007 Vintage New Zealand Ice Wine - an excellent dessert wine
(a gift from moomoo! yum!)

Then we assemble all our ingredients by groups!

Dessert Ingredients
Maincourse, Salad and sides Ingredients

Entree Ingredients - Cheese Cheese and more cheese mmm

tep 1 : Making "Garden Vegetable Salad with Italian Dressing" - the key is in the assembly, let the leaves be your inspiration! * ha ha ha ha*

arrange the leaves in layers

Voila!

A masterpiece salad is created - top with Kraft Italian dressing before serving! Now on to the 2nd side dish - Baked Potato Countrystyle.

step 1 : wash scrub and chop up US russet potatoes into huge chunks. yes leave them skin on. skin is good source of fibre and taste! next boil em all in a pot of ...BOILING WATER LA ! then drain the potatoes and set aside.

Step 2 : splat a dollop of olive oil spread into frying pan , chop up some garlic and onions. it is important to note here that we are going for a rustic feel so leave the garlic and onion skins slightly peeled only, and leave them in chunks too.

"ssssssssssss"

add all the chopped garlic and onions...sprinkle lotsa rosemary leaves..fresh rosemary wouldve been better but i was being cheapo .stir fry till slightly burnt, then add the cooked potatoes..and stir some more! add black cracked pepper and sea salt to taste!

Then throw everything into foil dish, foil cover the top and bung the whole thing in the oven to bake for 15mins on high

And Now ....the reason why you have read on..the secret you have all been waiting for...For the main course - Guppy's famous baked salmon and the secret of the ermmm...secret sauce! For those of you who loved it...here goes the secret of my delicious baked salmon *drum roll*

Tada - Lee Kum Kee Fried Cod Fillet Sauce !!!!

Simply pour all contents of the entire satchel on good quality norwegian salmon steaks, remember to remove all the bones with tweezers, sprinkle rosemary leaves on top and marinade for 15 mins.. you can also prepare this the day before. but not much difference

cut out sheets of foil about A4 in size, spread same olive oil spread on top of the foil, then plonk piece of salmon steak on top. dribble more marinade on top before folding up the whole thing into little parcel packets sealed tightly to maintain the moisture as it bakes.

little one is for kitty hee hee - without seasoning just water! Bake in oven on high for 15 mins! together with the potatoes!

To serve, simply remove from foil, slice some avocado and place over salmon, drizzle juices over the steak..Voila! Baked Salmon ala Guppy! mwahahahah!

All that remains is to cut up the cheese and arrange a cheese platter uncork the wine...and we are ready to set the table!

It's all in setting ze Mood!

Nice soft lighting, candles...flowers...aaaaaaah....casa de guppy is not a bad place to host this seductive dinner yesh?! heeeee not bad look like posh posh restaurant ha ha ha ha. a little climate control...lotsa warm lighting, candle lights and soothing bossa nova..

Eat your heart out Blu, Les Amis..Casa De Guppy is just as cool! hahahahaha

presentation is key!

Thank you for the excellent dessert wine moomoo! A fine meal paired with excellent riesling!

The Piece De Resistance! Chocolate Obsession Icecream Medley

Yesh all in all, it was a great evening of fine food and fine wine in the comfort of home. No need to dress up, no need for make up..easy peasy...now to make him wash everything up while i blog! whahah

An afternoon with my new family

It's "Family Day" at our Singapore office today.

Normally. I'd avoid such kumbaya-work-fun-bonding sessions. But this time round, in my new role as "boss chick" and i use this term very very loosely, i went along and tried to enjoy it as much as I can.

You've got to appreciate the act though when organisations put a premium on the welfare of their staff and invests in team/bond building activities.

This year, "Family Day" is held at the Changi Sailing Club! Not a bad place at all but methinks my parent's Changi Beach Club is definitely cooler -sans the sailboats. We were encouraged to bring along our partners and joy joy porkchop agreed to join me and meet my new family.

Much as people got a glimpse into my personal life when they met Porkchop, I got a glimpse into theirs when they brought in their significant other, wives, husbands, kids, babies in prams the works. Suddenly everybody seemed more 3 Dimensional.

The day began quite slowly(boring)...and only picked up when we begun the scavenger hunt - We did insane things in the name of team work today amongst which some of the actions included :
1. fry an egg in the wok of a hawker stall
2. ask a guy as he exits the toilet -" tell me about your experience in the loo , how was it for you?"
3. catch a fish
4. shake the hand of a policeman
5. make a gibberish speech in public amongs strangers
6. serenade a stranger with a love song
and more!

It was overall a tiring day for me.

Heee some of the girls remarked that Porkchop looked handsome and cute! * grin* our receptionist even asked me how i managed to snag my porky specimen!

oh well....c'est la vie!

How was your day today happie gupsters?

Enter the Leo Dragon

Someone asked me what year I was born in, what astrological sign I belonged to today

Here's a compilation from various sources on the internet!

Dragons are: Vibrant, Magnanimous, Charismatic, Principled, Self-sufficient, Discriminating, Compelling, Sentimental, Accomplished, Noble-hearted, Healthy and Shrewd, Enterprising

But Dragons can also be: Dissatisfied, Ruthless, Demanding, Opinionated, Mawkish, Egocentric, Defensive, Power-mad, Foolhardy, Conceited, Willful and Pompous

THE FIRE DRAGON 1916 AND 1976
The Fire Dragon is a powerful force to be reckoned with. This is a Dragon doubled! The Fire Dragon can move from calm and collected to combustible in a matter of seconds. In some ways the Fire Dragon is his or her own worst enemy. These Dragons cannot help feeling they are valuable and all-knowing. When they are right their vehemence and vigor is an asset to the cause, and though they value objectivity, they do not always employ the best decision-making measures, and sometimes jump to the wrong conclusion. They also suffer from recklessness and quick tempers. Yet, when they do keep their temper, emotions, and rivaling spirit under control, they emanate a commanding influence on other people.

The key to the Dragon personality is that Dragons are the free spirits of the Zodiac. Conformation is a Dragon's curse. Rules and regulations are made for other people. Restrictions blow out the creative spark that is ready to flame into life. Dragons must be free and uninhibited.

The Dragon is a beautiful creature, colorful and flamboyant. An extroverted bundle of energy, gifted and utterly irrepressible, everything Dragons do is on a grand scale - big ideas, ornate gestures, extreme ambitions. However, this behavior is natural and isn't meant for show. Because they are confident, fearless in the face of challenge, they are almost inevitably successful. Dragons usually make it to the top. However, Dragon people be aware of their natures. Too much enthusiasm can leave them tired and unfulfilled.

Even though they are willing to aid when necessary, their pride can often impede them from accepting the same kind of help from others. Dragons' generous personalities give them the ability to attract friends, but they can be rather solitary people at heart. A Dragon's self-sufficiency can mean that he or she has no need for close bonds with other people.

I also found this on AOL.com about cute Leos ...

Leo Characteristics and Profile

Leos are :Generous ,Warmhearted, Creative, Ambitious, Enthusiastic, Broad-minded, Expansive, Affectionate, Playful and Loving

But Leos can also be: Pompous , Melodramatic, Patronizing, Bossy , Interfering, Dogmatic, Intolerant, Vain
The Lion is considered the king of the jungle, and likewise you Leos have an air of royalty about you. And proud are you Leo! Perhaps that's why Leo often chooses work that puts you in the center of stage or in the spotlight of appreciation. Leo are warm of spirit, eager for action and are driven by a desire to be loved for what you bring to others.

People are attracted to Leo's zest for life and their warm spirit. They have the ability to lift up one's spirits and provide encouragement when times are rough. Their enthusiasm attracts people, Leos are social butterflies, not because they want to be but because people always naturally gravitate and surround the Leo. Leos are very difficult people to not like, they are usually fairly balanced, realistic people. They never dwell on the past and they will think you are strange if you do.

Business dealings are easy and successful for Leo, if they are in command and control. This can cause conflict in the workplace should the Leo not be in a position of superiority, but they usually get there eventually thanks to their powerful drive to succeed, in other words, they are excellent leaders because this is their kingdom they have to control, and they do it well.

Leos are full of drama, flair and extravagance and this reflects in the business world. They make an impact, they make a difference in the workplace and help to keep the parts moving in sync and iron out any problems before they arise. If the business fails, that means that Leo fails and they are extremely determined not to fail

Leo is the most extravagant spender of all astrology signs. They will not over do it but they will surround themselves with luxury as much as possible. They will never settle for second best.

Leo loves the new and extraordinary, they despise dull, regular routines and if this is what they are faced with, they will simply create their own drama and excitement.

Leo has an amazing ability to bounce back from any feelings of despair or unfortunate events. They do not like to be unhappy, it hurts their pride so they will take matters into their own hands and make things right again. Leos could come into conflict with other powerhouse type of people who will not take orders and not give an inch, Leos will not budge their opinion, they will understand and accept opinions of others but they do not take well to people to try to impose their beliefs on them.

Wahahahaha the stuff you can find off the internet these days....
stay tuned happie gupsters! 2008 year of the RAT Lunar new year astrological forecast for Leo Fire Dragons in February!

what a horrible day.

Happie Birthday Bijoux!
Before i rant about what is possibly the first horrible day for me , Its Bijoux's birthday today and that lucky girl has shipped her ass off to Taiwan for a 5 Day shopping and hot spring self pampering spree (..sobss i shouldve gone with u babes! miss you already) Big Big GUPPY HUGS! harlo angpow already given hor and u better spend it not hoard it! your frugality is giving your spendthrift jie jie a bad name!

Ok now back to your syndicated guppy rants and wails -

It was a horrible day today. I swear i barely picked up the pieces of my battered ego as i dragged my ass home to hide this evening.

Shitty Day 1 : Guppies look awful and fat.
The day started innocently enough. i put on my black power pants suit, styled my hair, slapped on my war paint and went to work. I took extra pains to dress up today wore my lucky red lipstick - we had a big meeting with a client this afternoon so guppy was looking suitably professional and very much a corporateguppy.

I was, how shall i put it, on a natural high, confident, happie and ready psyched up to take on the world... that is until i settled down to my usual chat on msn.

Yes it has happened AGAIN! No matter how much weight i lose i will never look like the skinny stick things with big heads that stalk the streets of our tiny island and I dont intend to. But here it is haunting me. different person, different context, same self righteous comments. For those of you who know me and walked with me through my weight loss/gain over the years , you will know the pain im feeling now.

Another well meaning person saw the immediate need to verbalise the virtues of discipline, diet, exercise ..vs reality check on how unattractive I look and how i could NEVER get certain joy joys and things i want if i don't "Lose the weight"

You'd think i'd be used to this by now since i had been a big girl almost my entire adult life and been on the recieving end of such warm unsolicited admonishes/encouragements . I am aware of the realities of life people! Maybe i am wrong. The world is not divided into have and have nots. Its divided into gorgeous and ugly.

Gorgeous = "have", Ugly = "have nots"

Im a haughty guppy with an ego bigger than Mt Everest. You've heard me say this before - Only give a shit about what people you really care about think, for people you dont give a damn about, who cares ?! love me , love me as I am ..or walk away Now and quit upsetting my balance.

Anyways yes. apology accepted. :P

Perhaps the real horror and the crux of why today is a terrible day for me is not because of the comments but because I didnt expect that comments to affect me so badly. i HOPE the reason im feeling this way is coz I'm PMSing

what a horrible day.

Shitty Day 2: Guppies are not designed for studying...

Over my short break last year. I took up the Pleasure Power Craft Driving License ( PPCDL) course -for those not in the know, its a license to drive a motorpowered boat/pleasure craft. yes its the call of the ocean again...anyway , the theory exam was scheduled for today 9th of January. I procrastinated till the very last minute, last night actually, to flip through the books to study for it. sigh.

And when i did sit down to read the manual, the content was so boring and dry that i find myself dozing off after every few pages. perhaps its my age..perhaps im just not a very smart guppy..but really - NOTHING SEEMS TO STICK to this old brain.

After my afternoon meetings, i left work on the dot once again rushed to Singapore Polytechnic to take my exam. My heart was heavy, and my eyelids were heavy (from trying to cram info into old brain)

what did i get for all my efforts ? I failed la.

Sigh ...Its been a long long time since i recieved "FAILED" on an examination paper brings back memories of my how i got my Drivers license in Australia :P .

haha i would fail the theory paper at one driving centre, then hop on a cab to another driving centre to retake the paper, fail again, then go to another centre again, well you get the picture hahaha took me 3 tries *blush*

Gosh! is it gonna be the same scenario again for the Powerboat license? WAILS!

what a horrible day!

Well, I'm sure your day was definitely better than mine, Im going to bed now I want to forget this horrible day. I will be back my happie gupsters and I hope with happier news!

Blizzard Monster Strikes Again!

This week's a really packed one for this guppy. I've an exam on wednesday evening and i totally forgot about it till yesterday. Haven't started studying for it yet :P damn! Procrastination thy name is GUPPY!

I left the office on the dot ,splurged on a $23.00 cabfare* to get my backside home in double quick time so that i can squeeze in as much study time as possible tonight.

And what did i get after all my efforts and splurges to rush myself home? I was greeted by this wonderful snow "Blizzard" scenary as I stepped into my apartment:

The Blizzard Monster that caused it, sprawled all out spread eagled, at one corner of the flat looking at me with big big eyes

"meow? it wasn't me.. meow meow meow?"

I thought i'd give him the benefit of the doubt..decided to take a shower before i start cleaning up, but when i came out of the shower guess what the Blizzard Monster was doin?

Maybe I'll start studying tomorrow i have more important things to do tonight..

Kill the kitty Kill the kitty Kill the kitty Kill the kitty!

*I'm a fan of the 35% cab fare increment that's plagued our little island city these past few weeks. Its been a breeze flagging down taxis! keep up the cab fares i say. Those who cannot afford it have no business taking taxi rides - take the bus or go buy a car for crying out loud and quit bitchin. - The world IS divided into haves and have nots!

A few of my favourite things

***This blog entry is written as I engage in mortal scrabble combat with Moomoo on facebook muahahahaha! ***

"Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens;
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens;
Brown paper packages tied up with strings;
These are a few of my favorite things..."

Julie Andrews sung this in the 1965 movie- The Sound of Music. the lyrics to the song are a litany of things that the heroine Maria ( the nun turned au pair - hah what are the odds? ) loves, things she selects to fill her mind with when times get bad and sad.

Today as i was fiddling about at my workstation. Yes i went to the office today even though its a weekend ( too many meetings this week, didnt get time to do any real work :P) so i thought I'd do some catching up over the weekend. Man it was hard getting my head around ..well getting some real work done. damn!

Anyway i digress.. As i was fiddling about at my workstation before i knew it, I was also happily msn chatting with buoy who was also at work this rainy saturday.

As usual the conversation veered towards buoy dreaming up the latest (craziest? plausible? Cool?) money making scheme so that we can get rich and he will have money to buy the latest spanking shiny chick magnet set of fast wheels while i get enough money to allow me to stock pile on the 2008 Louis Vuitton haute couture collection hahaha !

Making Money - Well at least thats some real powerful potent motivation aint it? Neeways it got me thinking .It would be great if i was loaded with lots of money wouldnt it? ...i really love money.Money is my favourite thing. wait scratch that..I really love the stuff money can buy Money can buy me all my favourite things ! hmmm can it really?

Now at home I am still thinking - What the hell do i really like man? What are my favourite things? Is it sex? is it travel? is it money? is it the stuff money can buy?

***Guppy pauses blogging ,flicks on the scrabble window and msned Moomoo for her opinion ***

05/01/2008 22:35:34

Beauty World ...Cha Cha Cha

I just got home..its 2:42am
Its been quite a busy work week as everyone settled back into their busy schedules. Im glad i already made plans with Bijoux last week to catch the the local musical production "Beauty World" at the Esplanade Theatre.

A full house preview performance - Friday 4th Jan 2008

Unfortunately the whole musical was a little underwhelming for me. I dont care what the critics are saying or what the mainstream publicity mill is trumpeting. No im not comparing "Beauty World" to broadway productions of like Les Miserables, CATS or Phantom of the Opera, Just my own little personal view and just comparing it to another local production - Forbidden City.

Forbidden City was definitely a stronger production number. Maybe i was expecting too much after all the hype. But i thought that although the whole act was fun, costuming and sets were glitzy and professional, the whole performance was well, just a little flat for me. Except for the lead actress...every other singer on this musical is at best...well mediocre. At least the plot was heart warming.

Lucky for me i had Bijoux to accompany me tonight. Bitching and swooning over a performance is more fun with a fellow theatre and arts buff Kaki :D ( yes even if u are otherwise too anime otahku fan girl inclined i still love u)

Nevertheless. I am glad to be starting on this year's performance arts calendar on the first week of the month!

Looking forward to many more evenings of theatrical enjoyments and arts performances.

$10 for the theatre program.... $148 two tickets to Beauty World....

Theatre and arts performance kaki- Bijoux...PRICELESS.

Supper at cheapo cafe cartel ...coz we're broke from the theatre

Hey you...yes YOU : Take me out to dinner and the theatres soon.

Day One - Dedicated to the LPG Council

Its the first working day for 2008 today :)

The alarm on my mobile phone went off at 630am..i put it on snooze and went back to sleep again, it rang again, i put it on snooze again...yup u get the picture. 7am i extracted myself from my lovely bed, went through my morning toilet rituals , put on the black business suit i laid out the night before, slapped on my war paint and just as I was about to step out of my house - i looked at myself in the mirror - and decided that i didnt want to start the working year dressed all in black. :P blyeah.

I ransacked my wardrobe and settled on a gleen leaf motif wrap dress instead.

Yes Im a Bimbo. correction - One very late bimbo. I arrived at work 5 mins late.

I dove straight into work. Caught up with my boss , my team, Im getting a project manager who is relocating to Singapore from our Bangkok office. Besides that , today is also the first day of work for alot of newbies that have just joined the organisation.

In between msn messages with friends online, I had lots more meetings about numbers, ideas for where to get the numbers, what will happen if we dont get the numbers :P lotsa planning, lotsa discussions, (where i was once again reminded why my boss is my boss --he is so damn driven!) the energy was simply infectious and by late afternoon, the wheels were already in unstoppable motion.

As the day ended, i looked around at the pockets of activities around me. Yes its good to be back on the battlefield again! I hope i achieve enough success and results to stay here permanently. There is no real "end" to the work we begin...but ah they have cut off the airconditioning 5 mins earlier than usual today - this guppy cannot exist without climate control..it was time to go home.

Tomorrow is another day. i can't wait! hee hee

Council, I would like to dedicate my first working day in 2008 to you.

I met you when i first started out in this industry. Though we are all doing vastly different things now and you are all highly successful in your own chosen paths , you were there through my career high points, watched my shakey attempts at venturing to strike out on my own, watched me succeed, consoled and comforted me when i failed, through my career highs and lows there was one constant source of advice and encouragement. You've all been tough acts to follow. I hope i can catch up soon :)

3 Cheers to the LPG Council - Banzai! Banzai! Banzai!

Gambate EVERYBODIE!!! the year has just begun! So how was your first day at work this 2008?
