Last few hours of 2008

Its the last day of 2008.

Nope, no sparklies today. still no street party for me ( yes ha ha so wierd for someone in my line) , i anticipate an even quieter ringing in of the new year tonight much like last years!

http://happieguppyadventures.blogspot.com/2007/12/how-did-you-spend-your-new-years-eve.html

This guppy went bowling with moomoo and porkchop!

Moomoo brought us to this cool wanton noodle joint in Joo Chiat road for some wanton mee brunch. The noodles didnt look palatable but when you take that first bite - YUM! definitely worth that trip out to the east hee hee

After the big noodle treat from moomoo- ofcourse with extra orders of broiled chicken and more wantons, Moo declared that we should go bowling at the nearby Kallang Shopping Mall

Before we knew it, the challenge was thrown - and we placed our bets! WINNER of 3 sets of games will take all!

place your bets!Game On!

P.G = Power Guppy
P = Porkchop
M = Moomoo!game 1 : Won by porkchop! ( despite this guppy's constant distractions and yelling "Long Kang!" (Gutter!)

Game 2 - won by Moomoo!
As you can see this guppy is not a very good bowler! grrrrrrrr!!!!!!

Game 3 - won by MOOMOO again! aargh!!

a VERY happie and also newly rich moomoo who won all our hard earned marnies :P

and its on to starbucks to end off our day with yummy chocolate delights ! YUM!

Now this guppy wants a bowling ball of her own! Will love and sayang anyone who finds and gets me this Vis-A-Ball Finding Nemo Bowling Ball !There are many new years eve parties planned for tonight, but as usual, big parties, dancing and insane crowds are not my thing. I prefer to spend it quietly and reflect over what has occured in this year.

On a serious note:

Nothing Im reading , or hearing now in the media has good news for 2009. The economy is still forecasted to be pretty shitty with more job losses expected globally - and at home in Singapore. Theres nothing left to do except , take that deep breath, and that confident step forward - Let's work hard in 2009!

New year's resolution ?

Hahaha i didnt manage to accomplish most of my New Years resolutions from this year too! Let me think about it and tell you more in my New post for 2009 next year :D ha

Happie New Year everyone :)

Ponyo on the cliff by the sea

Went to watch Ponyo on the Cliff by the sea today

I'd always felt like a fish out of water ... hah and when Studio Ghibli came out with this latest animation film, I couldnt believe how similar Ponyo is to my outlook in life! The movie really stretched the imagination a little - like how the hero would save Ponyo with "tap water" we know .. GOLDFISH or any fish will DIE in tap water! aargh! .. BUT Ponyo was a magical goldfish...oh well...

watch the trailer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfAUIZMccCA

Alas i was double booked today. had to join Porkchop , Andrew and Wendy for dinner at the Esplanade - for dinner at Mirchi the Indian restaurant. and had to leave the theatre halfway through the movie!

damn! - will have to wait for the DVD to see the ending for myself then ...sigh

It was great to catch up with Andrew and Wendy over dinner today. Andrew's taste in food is still good as ever, hah Mirchi served great indian delish foods ...the only thing that spoiled my "Indian gourmet experience" was the fact that we were served by a waitress who was NOT indian. we were served by a mainland china waitress.. who had trouble expressing herself in english . it was disturbing and i must admit, a minor littl mood spoiler.

Wanted to take pics of the delish yum yums but it was too dark in the restaurant, we ordered butter chicken, some cheese and spinach dish, curry fish, garlic naan, lamb in spinach and chickpea curry! good stuff man!

Lets do dinner again soon guys!

Oh gosh. its already december

70s Retro Dinner and Dance party :

5th December was a blast. Went to the company's Annual "Family Day " cum Xmas Dinner Party. it was a 70S disco Retro themed party , and almost everyone came dressed for the occasion - the prize for best dressed was an unprecedented - 2 DAYS ANNUAL LEAVE- that will be added to our leave entitlements! ( not bad aye? )

I went dressed as a 70s era getai singer , complete with sequinned black dress and a head of feathers ( dead black chicken on my head) * hhahahaha I got nominated as one of the top 10 best dressed and dubbed "feather girl" but didnt win...damn!

launching the party with a run/dance through the red carpet with our MD. Yeah wat to do I make a great mascot dont i? camwhoring with my colleagues, my other colleague took the pics, he liked to kneel / squat and take pics...which resulted in my very unflattering DOUBLECHINssss but man he had one cool camera! hahahah group shot with the ladies from accounts - the gatekeepers of my marnies and general happiness . group shot with my lovely team mates ! without whom work life wouldve been a dull bore! whahahah parteeeeEh i did win a prize in the end! WHAHAHAHA but it was for being a cute little mascot. I thought i wasnt gonna win a thing as in my position in the company i wasnt qualified for the lucky draw..sobss... but woohoo bosschick prepared some nice little prize for me ...awwwwww

Incase u were wondering why the hell i didnt win? well the The winning entry was a 70s biker in leather pants and long hippie hair! uber cool .

There are lots more pics...but cant seem to find pics of me in "less compromising drunken, reckless" stupors...so we will stick with the above PR approved ones ahhahaha!

It was really different from the last "xmas party/ family day" event I attended at the beginning of my job last year. After over 12 months, ive gotten to know more people better and grown to love my colleagues and enjoy working with them ( yes even if we disagree and want to strangle each other. )

Its been a great ride with this job . Looking forward to more adventures here~

Hooray found Ray!

Was workin in Jakarta for 2 nights.

Just before i returned to Singapore, news broke of terrorist attacks at the Oberoi , Taj Hotels in Mumbai India., at that moment i thought- damn im always at these 5 star joints , and travelling around our region . I got pretty shaken. it was too close for comfort. and just as i am blogging this, i saw on the news - a singaporean lawyer who was a hostage in the skirmish, was shot dead. definitely. too close for comfort.

Same deal , stayed at the Ritz Carlton mega kuningan again...*yawn* you've all seen the pics. But this time I had another mission : to find Ray!

Caught up with Ray in the evening after he got off work

Awww happie gupsters dont you think he has lost some weight ?!

After dinner we went to Ray's apartment ( its close to the Ritz Carlton hotel ) to check out what SGD 2000 plus a month can rent you in jakarta city!
stole the bright apartment pics from ray's facebook - coz it was too dark at night to take nice pics - this is the kitchen ,,,
this is the living room... not bad aye?

alas, the views on the left, a christian cemetary ..and the views on the right, a muslim cemetary...sigh at least its peaceful . hahaha Ray posing with his uber retro washing machine - you had to work it in sections , s.l.o.w.l.y , washer, then spin dryer , everything's manual ha ha ha ha ha eh better than no washing machine la
scandalous! hahahaha i had to "test out" Ray's bed - we love cam whoring!

Awww come home soon babe.

Doraemon took Ray

What is with this year ?

First porkchop, now even Ray is off to Jakarta for some permanent work.

Ray, Di , Moo, Francis, Mags and me caught up over dinner at Vivo city. We decided to buy Ray a nice dinner before he leaves. First we were at Crystal Jade fine dining,. but the whole place was just too posh and poseur for our taste. so we only ordered some small dishes like appetizers, one noodle and one chicken to share before we adjorned to Bakerz Inn to gorge in a more relaxed atmosphere.

The gang finally settling down to a hearty meal at Bakerz Inn yeah we were making alot of noise and i was busy cam whoringMags bot Ray some special milk coated nuts from Bangkok. it wasnt half bad!guppies love macroons! alas they ran out of lavender pink and blue ones...yummy flakey pizzastrawberry slushy thing with mint lotsa pasta..

Three Small Tasks

I'm not trying to be difficult. I just needed to believe that you give a shit.

And so I asked if you would do 3 small things for me:

1) Fix the many blown bulbs and blinking lights in my home.

2) The nitrate level has reached dangerous levels in my fish tank, all but one of my fishies have died on me. Help me fix it . save my Yellow Tang. Make it back to like when we first started.

3) Invite me to your home, to see YOUR fishtank and meet your family

I'm sure you'll agree with me, after all is said and done, apologies dont mean a thing unless accompanied by action.

You almost failed when you didnt keep to your own commitment to turn up at my place early in the morning today. It reminded me sorely of a lunch appointment you made with me that you couldnt make but neglected to inform me. like it or not, I now have a low threshold for small thoughtless actions.

But you agreed to do my 3 tasks. *joy*

When i saw you slaving away, changing the water, mixing the salt, scrubbing and cleaning up the algae and gunk on the glass of my 4 feet fishtank ,I felt it again - the possibility that this "Beautiful friendship" that you promised is for real and here to stay.

a cleaner fish tank,( after your diligent scrubbing and cleaning) with new rock arrangements, a happier surviving tang ( fingers crossed) now we need to stabilise the KH levels and slowly repopulate the tank,

I guess any friendship is like the fishtank. If you neglect it or abuse it..nitrate levels (negative thoughts, poison) accumulates. eventually the toxicity levels kill off your fishies one by one.

Friendships , like the fishtank is constant work. If we keep it clean, keep a an observing eye on it, take pains to maintain it. feed and take care of the fishies in the tank well, then the friendship, like a fishtank and its population will thrive.

So I promise I will continue to be a good friend to you for as long as you continue to sayang me and treat me right. ...and right now i am feeling very happy as i blog from my laptop sitting in my toilet throne room (that now has lights that work!)

And oei you are supposed to complete the 3 tasks within the month !

Gone to see the world!

Remember moomoo?

Moomoo made tacos, tortillas, spaghetti aglio lio and the best damn guacamole ive ever eaten for dinner a few nights ago. Trace n Anth came to join us for the happie meal as well There was so much delicious red and white Moscato to go around ...wheeeeeee!

This happie meal really put a smile back on this little guppy's face. the Moscato made me feel warm and fuzzy all over too :p hehehehh

Neeways after dinner, the conversation came to Moo's latest acquisition of a pair of X'mas edition starbucks bears. For those not in the know, moo is nuts about starbucks bears from around the world. she claimed to only have 20 plus bears but i disagreed, so we made her take out her entire stash of starbucks bears and did a head count. LO! there was close to 40 of those nutty things! insane!

but sooo sooo sooo adorable . With so many starbucks bears you would think she would display em for all to see right? WRONG! the poor cute little bears were all shrink wrapped and stuffed under her bed all the time! what a waste!

I couldnt help myself! heheh while everyone was gushing about the bears, i decided to kidnap one of em, free the bear from a lifetime of darkness shrinkwrapped under moomoo;s bed.

over the next few days i proceded to mms moomoo with updates of the little bear's adventures in the REAL WORLD! it was hilarious!

On 2nd look, the series of mms pics i sent to annoy moomoo really do make for a great kids story. :D I think i wanna quit my day job and go write a children's book...SERIOUS!

Presenting : Pinky goes out to see the world!

Once upon a time, there was a little starbucks bear called pinky. she was one of many many identical looking starbucks bears, living under the loving care of their mother moomoo,

Pinky loved her brothers and sisters, and most of all she loved her mommy moomoo. But she cant help but feel a little stifled and nursed a little identity crisis with so many other identical starbucks bears around her all the time.

" I feel stifled" cried pinky "who am I? What am I? woe!"
Left most of the time under the bed and not allowed to go out to play , Pinky spent most of her free time on the internet surfing websites and chatrooms, one day she met a cute airline teddy bear over the internet, they fell in love immediately and one day Pinky to run away from home with him!
MMS MESSAGE :
"Mommy, Im sorry but Ive fallen in love with a pilot. I noe u wun approve bcoz he's wit m'sia airlines, so Ive eloped with him . I love you mommy!"

Pinky found a job worked hard and being a really smart and cute lil starbucks bear, she managed to score herself her dream job in advertising! Pinky was now an independent teddy bear! she worked hard she made her own money . she had everything a career teddy could want, but she started to miss her mommy,
Pinky decided to send messages to her mommy to let her know that she is doing fine
MMS MESSAGE :
"Look ma! NO HANDS! "

MMS MESSAGE :
"She works hard for the marnies! uh huh uh huh, so hard for the marnies uh huh uh huh "

MMS MESSAGE :
"Sigh It's lonely at the top..."

MMS MESSAGE :
" Tea Time Macarons!"

MMS MESSAGE :
" Free Pizzas for all at the office today!"
Finally Pinky got a reply sms from her mommy : "Gimme back my bear!!!!!!"

Pinky cried tears of joy when she saw her mommy's sms... "My mommy misses me! she loves me!" and finally Pinky made her way home back into the loving arms of her mommy moomoo.
The moral of the story ?
Pretty bears should not be hidden under the bed to collect dust. They should be displayed for all to see, basking under the warmth of the morning sun
MMS MESSAGE :
"Life is like jaywalking , if you are not careful..SPLAT! But if you dont take some risks, you will never make it across faster than everyone else!"
Hmmm wonder which other teddy bear i should kidnap when im at moomoo;s again the next time! stay tuned happie gupsters!

Q is for quiet

Yes I've been quite quiet.

But its time to talk again.

I think today deserves a mention in my blog. The news of the day..well the century, is a black guy finally made it , got elected to be President of the United States of America. Hmm mabbe depressing american politics would become more interesting with him in power. I just hope he fixes the US/World economy so I can still be comfortable in my lifetime. :P *fingers crossed*

The past few weeks had been quite eventful

there were the not so happie ones :

Took ashton in for a car inspection..which he failed. was supposed to re-fit the cataclytic converter , fix him up a little and send him in for a 2nd round of inspections but just havent found the time to do it . MUST get it done in the next two weeks

Work made the announcement that we will get some parts of our bonuses but not all

I gave plenty of feedback , i hoped it will get better but well it got worse. was it a case of failed expectation or lack of respect? it doesnt really matter anymore and in time it will mean nothing to me too.

Fishies started to die on me. its uncanny. the original bunch ended with the death of maroon clown. and now there is only one Yellow Tang left in my huge 4 feet tank.

Then there were the happie ones :

I got a haircut. a really short one. I made the mistake of going to a hearland hairsalon to do a cheap rebond and basically fried my hair to a crisp. After a few weeks of trying to save it by slathering leave-in hair moisturiser every night before bed , i decided my hair was dead and im better off lopping the whole lot off and starting over again. - and now its awfully short :P yikes!

Attended Jas's boy Roy's 4th birthday party. hah it was a blast. and discovered a delish drink ( thanks to tracie n anth's introduction ) Long Flat Moscato * yes happie gupsters you heard it here first on happieguppy.com if you like em sweetish and fruity but light, moscato is the way to go and Long Flat is waay waay gentler on our economic downturn challenged wallets

Moomoo made TACO and spaghetti aglio olio TWICE for me...yum yum!

Yeah went to catch Avenue Q over the 30th of October, with Bijoux and Yarrl. It was Bijoux's SUPER belated birthday gift to me . And it was a blast! My favourite number - The Internet is for Porn ...hahahahah and dont i know it ;) thanks guys.

Sigh October doesnt seem to agree with me... lemme blink. blink real hard...i want december to come by now! now! now!

Attempt at writing a children's storybook

Once upon a time

There was a little guppy. She was very pink and very very round. She loved swimming about in the big blue ocean waving " hi dee ho!" to schools of other fishies that swam past her with her little pink fins.

One particularly beautiful day, the sun was shining, the ocean floor was abloom with big bright yellow , pink and purple corals. For just one moment, the little guppy stopped and looked up towards the surface. for the first time, she saw glistening rays of sunlight cutting through the blue ocean water.

" hmmm I wonder wats at the surface?" thought the little guppy . Suddenly, she felt adventurous ! With a mischevious glee she mustered all her strength, wiggled her round fishie tail and flapped her fins with all her strength!

UP UP UP she swam! until! hoooray! she was at the surface!

"Oooo its nice and super bright here! " cried the little guppy. she leaped up into the air , and splashed back into the ocean. She did it a again a few more times .

She did it until she she felt so tired her fins ached :P but she was warm and she was happie.

Exhausted, the little guppy just glided leisurely on the surface of the ocean, she took her time looking around at all the interesting stuff floating by her. There was an empty styrofoam box, a floating coconut , a piece of drift wood... all stuff little guppies have never seen before her entire life.

Then she spotted it , a tiny BRIGHT yellow speck a long distance away out in open sea. Drawn to its bright colour, the little guppy swam quickly towards it. When she finally caught up with it, she discovered it was a strange bright yellow round floating thingy!

"Hello there!" said the strange bright yellow round floating thingy

"Hello. wah what are u eh? are you a wierd floating kind of fish? " asked the little guppy as she circled this strange bright yellow round object.

"Im a lifebuoy little guppy, a yellow lifebuoy! I save lives! " replied the yellow lifebuoy .

"Er you not saving anyone's life lor..you are just floating out here at sea with me" giggled the little guppy.

" Nope, I just fell off a big ocean liner, Im waiting for the ocean liner to turn back. i belong on a big giant ship! when i find my ocean liner, I will sail the 7 seas again and visit new exotic places ! with my intelligence and imagination I shall rule the world! " exclaimed the yellow lifebuoy.

"Hee you're funny.. ok la, while u are waiting for your ship to sail in, we can hang out! I wait with you la.." replied the little guppy , as she swam happily around the yellow lifebuoy.

"Hmmm i got the feeling, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" said the yellow lifebuoy as he playfully nudged the little guppy in the tail while she leaped over and through him.

"wow a beautiful friendship wor! how cool is that! hee hee" thought the little guppy, and her heart was filled with happie glee!

From that day onwards , each morning the little guppy would surface again to hang out with the yellow lifebuoy and each evening when the sun sets, she ould swim home to the bottom of the sea

Everytime they met , the little guppy and the yellow lifebuoy would shared happy stories , sad stories, wiered stories and crazy stories as they waited n waited for a big ocean liner to pass by.

Alas, there was still no ocean liner in sight.

Soon, the little guppy forgot about the colourful corals beneath the ocean, she forgot about her school of fishie friends. All she wanted to do was listen to the yellow lifebuoy talk, she loved his laugh she loved every single moment of their adventure out at sea.

Then one fine sunny afternoon, the little guppy swam to the surface of the ocean as she normally did, looking for the yellow lifebuoy. But he wasnt at his usual spot. she swam in all directions, frantically calling out for him, and just as she was about to give up , she spotted him at the horizon, engrossed with another bunch of colourful tropical marine fishes.

The yellow lifebuoy was excited with his new found friends . He still wanted the little guppy around but he simply didnt have time for the little guppy no more, now that he had newer, more colourful tropical fishie buddies.

But still the little guppy hung around. she continued to swim up to the surface to look for her yellow life buoy every day , swimming beside him, waiting for the moment he had time to spend with her, hoping that things could get back to the happie way it was.

Then it started . The yellow lifebuoy would ask the little guppy for small favours.

Some days he would ask the little guppy to tow him to chase after the colourful tropical fishies. Other days it was to help him keep a look out for the ocean liner he was waiting for while he did other stuff by himself or hung out with other tropical fishies.

Each time he would disguise each request or favour as an invitation to play a new game. and even though the little guppy knew what was going on, she loved the yellow lifebuoy so much she really didnt care. she was content to just hang out with the yellow lifebuoy.

And so the little guppy would push and tow the yellow lifebuoy, against the ocean currents , finning with all her might so he could catch up with his latest obsessions.

Soon, the little guppy began to see more and more that all along the only thing the yellow lifebuoy cared for in this earth is well..himself.

Each time the yellow lifebuoy said "hi" , he would be asking for something. there was always a need. Soon, the little guppy used up whatever affection she had left for the yellow lifebuoy. There was nothing left within her to give her strength to continue to hold on to the "beautiful friendship" promised by the yellow lifebuoy.

The little guppy had grown so tired from towing the yellow lifebuoy around against strong currents that her little fins ached. And she finally, had to admit to herself - that time spent with the yellow lifebuoy was no longer fun. She was tired so very tired. and she started to miss the peaceful simple colourful seabed beneath the ocean floor.

And so one fine day, after she towed the yellow lifebuoy to where the tropical fishies would play , she just let go of him and let herself sink slowly back down into the water.

As she turned around to take one last look at the yellow lifebuoy . There he was , in all his glory, still excitedly talking to himself, and keeping both eyes on the horizon looking out for the elusive ocean liner . Totally unaware that the little guppy is no longer on the surface of the ocean floating along with him.

The little guppy whispered goodbye, shed a little tear and swam back to the bottom of the seabed to the comfort and safety of her home and familiar fishie friends.

The little guppy will always remember the yellow lifebuoy for all the fun times, and the affection he had shown her. She prays the yellowlifebuoy will find his ocean liner and continue to live happily ever after .

She will sleep for awhile, and tomorrow when she wakes up, she will shake off all this sadness and once again be the simple happie little guppy , swimming with her friends among the colourful corals and kelp.

The End.

Insanely Happie in Melbourne Part 2

Better late than never right?

Yes this blog entry for the last 2 days of my stay in Melbourne is also insanely late! Ive been back in Singapore for 2 weeks and even completed a 2 day work trip to Kuala Lumpur to boot ..

hehehhe but you know what they say , better late than never :P

Day 4:
I was feeling it...the "limited" time i had left...time was ticking away. we spent the morning trapesing through town shopping . i guess the pressure of the left over "limited" time got to me and i lost my temper at porkchop over the littlest things.

By the afternoon, we were happily trapesing through the city park... armed with loaves of bread, we searhed for little wild ducks to feed...just like when we were in uni. but damn there were no ducks in sight :P sigh

having given up on finding any ducks , we walked deeper into the park and ended up at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl. an outdoor concert area on top of a hill within the park.you can see Melbourne city's skyline from the hill... see the building beside the statue..thats where porkchop's apartment is..and the other really tall one is the Eureka Tower..the one with the golden bee sculptures.. we just sat on the grass...lied back and stared out into the sky...enjoying the quiet.

then porkchop had an idea - He would take me to St Kilda's beach! we boarded the tram...but got lost along the way :P luckily we were able to get a cab off the streets .

When we got to St Kilda's Beach..the skies were cloudy and strong chilly winds were beating down on everything in sight.

cloudy cloudy grey skiesthere were alot of street side stalls selling anything from artwork, to handmade jewelery and leather craft stuffview of the beach from the main road . we made our way down to the jetty...view from the jetty , lo! Melbourne city aint so far away from St Kilda's beach too.my artistic photoshoot : gery clouds were everywhere. and then...rays of sunlight shone through..it was quite an amazing sight!after a long walk along the jetty, we finally got to this amazing old restaurant at the end of the jetty - for the life of me i cant remember what is the name of this lighthouse. we wanted to have a cup of warm coffee and some cakes there but , it was full :(

this is my favourite shot below..the sun was setting. and things amazingly got brighter as we drew closer to the evening. lotsa people were doing some really cool wind surfing? is that what its called? im not too sure but it looked damn fun! crash landed surfee...nevermind mate you were still cool!hehhehe i took a pic of our shadow as we trapesed back to the beach from the jetty.

Day 5 :

we went back to town and got some delicioous food from the little alley ways

discovered this quaint little seafood shopyeah porkchop ended up eating fish and chips again...but this time grilled fish :P

lotsa fish and chips and fish soup later, we still had space for delicious chocolate
Porkchop refused to let me go gamble at the Crown Casino... :P beat beat beat ...but he made it up by taking me to the Melbourne Aquarium to see my favourite --FISHIES!!!!
YAY! there really was lots to see and do at the Melbourne aquarium.. and it was their UFO promo - UFO ( jELLYFISH)

i managed to capture many mesmerizing magical pics of different varieties of jellyfishies
neeeenooooo neeeenoooooo i think i would freak out if i saw jellyfishies in swarms like this while scubadiving :P
this giant crab made me hungry ...
so did these rays.... yum yumpissy looking sharks were everywhere but they didnt have a travellator nor dugongs..not like the singapore underwaterworld at Sentosa... PLUS scubadiving with the sharks at the Melbourne Aquarium was over 300 bucks! i mean it was only 90 bucks in Singapore! what gives ?

i took over 50 pics i think in the aquarium simply too many to share ...hahahaha

..After the aquarium adventure...we settled into a quiet dinner...just sat around the house.busied myself cleaning up, doing the dishes, doing all the laundry. i didnt sleep. i whipped up some ravioli for porkchop to take to work the next day . just wanted to do as much as i could for him before i left.

the next day Porkchop had to leave for work first thing in the morning.

the next day was my flight home back to Singapore.
