Back in the day while the 5 of us were all working in the same company, young and green, I always thought we all wanted the same things. we encouraged supported and helped each other along the way as we slowly but surely worked towards our goals and dreams.
Sigh ofcourse , 8 years on, I realised quite awhile ago, that nope, we do not all aspire for the same things. But while the dreams and aspirations of my council sisters have changed , - Im happy to see that they are still doing very very well in their chosen path! And each time i catch up with them I always sigh - at least they know what they want in life and set out to get what they want .
What does this guppy want ? In all honesty - i thought i always knew what i wanted. But these days...Im not really sure my chosen path is what i really want.
This week, the LPG Council had planned an impromptu dinner at Pete's place , a nice little italian pasta place at the Grand Hyatt. --> but not everyone could come :(
While Enjay is excused as she is all the way in Cicinnatti our timezones are off , Wen had urgent stuff at work and could not join us at the last minute, while Yummy was supposed to join us via webcam (as she is heavily into the last month of her pregnancy ...and fasting at the same time...) she fell asleep and missed the webcam time. booooo....
In the end it was just PO vs Pearl. A nice tete a tete for 2. The conversation was still good, still close to the heart. still candid and open.
I did get an epiphany over our conversation though - Each and every council sister knew what they want, and went after it with passion and gusto - Thats why they are so successful in life!
Enjay and Yummy decided , they wanted to build a family, they did not need a career to define them - they dropped the ambition and worked towards it . their priorities have changed. Enjay is now mommy to two beauties...and Yummy's baby "x" is due to arrive in October . everyone is so excited!
Wen and PO are still top of their game. They love what they do and they are good at what they do. they may have different roles in the company but in their individual roles, in my opinion, they are the best in the industry. and my goodness, our business is the toughest business in the industry.
As PO and i settled to order our dinner, i scanned the menu and realised - I did not desire anything offered on the restaurant's menu . But i knew i wanted pasta. I knew I wanted prawns, I knew i wanted something simple and not too rich. -- and so i made a special order of Prawn linguine Aglio Olio - with no chilli.
Yup , Petes place never dissapoints - this is the best prawn linguini aglio olio i had ever tasted. - compliments to the chef for dishing up my special off the menu order.
Alas , i wish i knew what i wanted in life - as clearly as i knew what i wanted to eat. somethings cannot be more true. Am i as successful as you my council sistas? for now, Im not too sure and i dont think so. But i now realise, You've got to know what you want - before you can get what you want ... sigh ...for now. I really dont know what I want .
