Attempt at writing a children's storybook

Once upon a time

There was a little guppy. She was very pink and very very round. She loved swimming about in the big blue ocean waving " hi dee ho!" to schools of other fishies that swam past her with her little pink fins.

One particularly beautiful day, the sun was shining, the ocean floor was abloom with big bright yellow , pink and purple corals. For just one moment, the little guppy stopped and looked up towards the surface. for the first time, she saw glistening rays of sunlight cutting through the blue ocean water.

" hmmm I wonder wats at the surface?" thought the little guppy . Suddenly, she felt adventurous ! With a mischevious glee she mustered all her strength, wiggled her round fishie tail and flapped her fins with all her strength!

UP UP UP she swam! until! hoooray! she was at the surface!

"Oooo its nice and super bright here! " cried the little guppy. she leaped up into the air , and splashed back into the ocean. She did it a again a few more times .

She did it until she she felt so tired her fins ached :P but she was warm and she was happie.

Exhausted, the little guppy just glided leisurely on the surface of the ocean, she took her time looking around at all the interesting stuff floating by her. There was an empty styrofoam box, a floating coconut , a piece of drift wood... all stuff little guppies have never seen before her entire life.

Then she spotted it , a tiny BRIGHT yellow speck a long distance away out in open sea. Drawn to its bright colour, the little guppy swam quickly towards it. When she finally caught up with it, she discovered it was a strange bright yellow round floating thingy!

"Hello there!" said the strange bright yellow round floating thingy

"Hello. wah what are u eh? are you a wierd floating kind of fish? " asked the little guppy as she circled this strange bright yellow round object.

"Im a lifebuoy little guppy, a yellow lifebuoy! I save lives! " replied the yellow lifebuoy .

"Er you not saving anyone's life lor..you are just floating out here at sea with me" giggled the little guppy.

" Nope, I just fell off a big ocean liner, Im waiting for the ocean liner to turn back. i belong on a big giant ship! when i find my ocean liner, I will sail the 7 seas again and visit new exotic places ! with my intelligence and imagination I shall rule the world! " exclaimed the yellow lifebuoy.

"Hee you're funny.. ok la, while u are waiting for your ship to sail in, we can hang out! I wait with you la.." replied the little guppy , as she swam happily around the yellow lifebuoy.

"Hmmm i got the feeling, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" said the yellow lifebuoy as he playfully nudged the little guppy in the tail while she leaped over and through him.

"wow a beautiful friendship wor! how cool is that! hee hee" thought the little guppy, and her heart was filled with happie glee!

From that day onwards , each morning the little guppy would surface again to hang out with the yellow lifebuoy and each evening when the sun sets, she ould swim home to the bottom of the sea

Everytime they met , the little guppy and the yellow lifebuoy would shared happy stories , sad stories, wiered stories and crazy stories as they waited n waited for a big ocean liner to pass by.

Alas, there was still no ocean liner in sight.

Soon, the little guppy forgot about the colourful corals beneath the ocean, she forgot about her school of fishie friends. All she wanted to do was listen to the yellow lifebuoy talk, she loved his laugh she loved every single moment of their adventure out at sea.

Then one fine sunny afternoon, the little guppy swam to the surface of the ocean as she normally did, looking for the yellow lifebuoy. But he wasnt at his usual spot. she swam in all directions, frantically calling out for him, and just as she was about to give up , she spotted him at the horizon, engrossed with another bunch of colourful tropical marine fishes.

The yellow lifebuoy was excited with his new found friends . He still wanted the little guppy around but he simply didnt have time for the little guppy no more, now that he had newer, more colourful tropical fishie buddies.

But still the little guppy hung around. she continued to swim up to the surface to look for her yellow life buoy every day , swimming beside him, waiting for the moment he had time to spend with her, hoping that things could get back to the happie way it was.

Then it started . The yellow lifebuoy would ask the little guppy for small favours.

Some days he would ask the little guppy to tow him to chase after the colourful tropical fishies. Other days it was to help him keep a look out for the ocean liner he was waiting for while he did other stuff by himself or hung out with other tropical fishies.

Each time he would disguise each request or favour as an invitation to play a new game. and even though the little guppy knew what was going on, she loved the yellow lifebuoy so much she really didnt care. she was content to just hang out with the yellow lifebuoy.

And so the little guppy would push and tow the yellow lifebuoy, against the ocean currents , finning with all her might so he could catch up with his latest obsessions.

Soon, the little guppy began to see more and more that all along the only thing the yellow lifebuoy cared for in this earth is well..himself.

Each time the yellow lifebuoy said "hi" , he would be asking for something. there was always a need. Soon, the little guppy used up whatever affection she had left for the yellow lifebuoy. There was nothing left within her to give her strength to continue to hold on to the "beautiful friendship" promised by the yellow lifebuoy.

The little guppy had grown so tired from towing the yellow lifebuoy around against strong currents that her little fins ached. And she finally, had to admit to herself - that time spent with the yellow lifebuoy was no longer fun. She was tired so very tired. and she started to miss the peaceful simple colourful seabed beneath the ocean floor.

And so one fine day, after she towed the yellow lifebuoy to where the tropical fishies would play , she just let go of him and let herself sink slowly back down into the water.

As she turned around to take one last look at the yellow lifebuoy . There he was , in all his glory, still excitedly talking to himself, and keeping both eyes on the horizon looking out for the elusive ocean liner . Totally unaware that the little guppy is no longer on the surface of the ocean floating along with him.

The little guppy whispered goodbye, shed a little tear and swam back to the bottom of the seabed to the comfort and safety of her home and familiar fishie friends.

The little guppy will always remember the yellow lifebuoy for all the fun times, and the affection he had shown her. She prays the yellowlifebuoy will find his ocean liner and continue to live happily ever after .

She will sleep for awhile, and tomorrow when she wakes up, she will shake off all this sadness and once again be the simple happie little guppy , swimming with her friends among the colourful corals and kelp.

The End.

Insanely Happie in Melbourne Part 2

Better late than never right?

Yes this blog entry for the last 2 days of my stay in Melbourne is also insanely late! Ive been back in Singapore for 2 weeks and even completed a 2 day work trip to Kuala Lumpur to boot ..

hehehhe but you know what they say , better late than never :P

Day 4:
I was feeling it...the "limited" time i had left...time was ticking away. we spent the morning trapesing through town shopping . i guess the pressure of the left over "limited" time got to me and i lost my temper at porkchop over the littlest things.

By the afternoon, we were happily trapesing through the city park... armed with loaves of bread, we searhed for little wild ducks to feed...just like when we were in uni. but damn there were no ducks in sight :P sigh

having given up on finding any ducks , we walked deeper into the park and ended up at the Sydney Myer Music Bowl. an outdoor concert area on top of a hill within the park.you can see Melbourne city's skyline from the hill... see the building beside the statue..thats where porkchop's apartment is..and the other really tall one is the Eureka Tower..the one with the golden bee sculptures.. we just sat on the grass...lied back and stared out into the sky...enjoying the quiet.

then porkchop had an idea - He would take me to St Kilda's beach! we boarded the tram...but got lost along the way :P luckily we were able to get a cab off the streets .

When we got to St Kilda's Beach..the skies were cloudy and strong chilly winds were beating down on everything in sight.

cloudy cloudy grey skiesthere were alot of street side stalls selling anything from artwork, to handmade jewelery and leather craft stuffview of the beach from the main road . we made our way down to the jetty...view from the jetty , lo! Melbourne city aint so far away from St Kilda's beach too.my artistic photoshoot : gery clouds were everywhere. and then...rays of sunlight shone through..it was quite an amazing sight!after a long walk along the jetty, we finally got to this amazing old restaurant at the end of the jetty - for the life of me i cant remember what is the name of this lighthouse. we wanted to have a cup of warm coffee and some cakes there but , it was full :(

this is my favourite shot below..the sun was setting. and things amazingly got brighter as we drew closer to the evening. lotsa people were doing some really cool wind surfing? is that what its called? im not too sure but it looked damn fun! crash landed surfee...nevermind mate you were still cool!hehhehe i took a pic of our shadow as we trapesed back to the beach from the jetty.

Day 5 :

we went back to town and got some delicioous food from the little alley ways

discovered this quaint little seafood shopyeah porkchop ended up eating fish and chips again...but this time grilled fish :P

lotsa fish and chips and fish soup later, we still had space for delicious chocolate
Porkchop refused to let me go gamble at the Crown Casino... :P beat beat beat ...but he made it up by taking me to the Melbourne Aquarium to see my favourite --FISHIES!!!!
YAY! there really was lots to see and do at the Melbourne aquarium.. and it was their UFO promo - UFO ( jELLYFISH)

i managed to capture many mesmerizing magical pics of different varieties of jellyfishies
neeeenooooo neeeenoooooo i think i would freak out if i saw jellyfishies in swarms like this while scubadiving :P
this giant crab made me hungry ...
so did these rays.... yum yumpissy looking sharks were everywhere but they didnt have a travellator nor dugongs..not like the singapore underwaterworld at Sentosa... PLUS scubadiving with the sharks at the Melbourne Aquarium was over 300 bucks! i mean it was only 90 bucks in Singapore! what gives ?

i took over 50 pics i think in the aquarium simply too many to share ...hahahaha

..After the aquarium adventure...we settled into a quiet dinner...just sat around the house.busied myself cleaning up, doing the dishes, doing all the laundry. i didnt sleep. i whipped up some ravioli for porkchop to take to work the next day . just wanted to do as much as i could for him before i left.

the next day Porkchop had to leave for work first thing in the morning.

the next day was my flight home back to Singapore.
