Mommy

Yes, I have not been blogging quite as much as I would've liked to, on top of the usual work commitments , there were just simply too many things happening at the same time, some of which were work activites, a good other half consistedof little mini projects that I had started on my own, but mostly, the lack of updates can be attributed to some events that have occured that have totally knocked me off my balance .

Well things have gotten better now and i am able to talk about what had happened.

Love u Mommy!

I was getting dressed for work in the wee hours of monday morning when Bijoux called. Mom had fallen down the stairs at home , she fell and hit her head against the corner of a cabinet at the foot of the stairway , there were 2 deep cuts to her forehead, blood was everywhere and an ambulance was called to take her to the nearby Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Yarrl accompanied mom in the ambulance while dad followed in the car. Bijoux stayed behind at home to clean up the blood. I grabbed a cab and rushed over as soon as I could to the the family home to pick Bijoux up on my way to the hospital.

My mind was a blank, all i could feel was this retch at the bottom of my tummy, my heart was so heavy with fear that i couldnt think straight. When Bijoux hopped into the cab and started to describe how mom's cuts were , how much blood was spilled, she started to cry and i found myself not knowing what to say or do to comfort her.

All i felt was this big sense of loathing - I was not at home to be of help to anyone when things really mattered. I was too far away from the people I love .

When we finally got to Tan Tock Seng hospital , i was relieved to hear that mom was stable . We took turns to go into the emergency care ward to visit her, when I saw the stitches on mom's forehead my heart sank. I had to hold back my tears as I didnt want her to worry.

At least mom lucid, awake and able to argue with the doc to not stitch up every cut but put tapes on the small one instead ( she doesnt want any scarring) afterthat there was nothing anyone else could do. The docs wanted to keep her around for a day for observation but she refused and was eventually sent home 3 hours later.

My boss was due back in Singapore on monday so I couldnt afford to be away from work, after knowing mom was fine, i rushed back to work. I didnt get to see mom again until later that evening when i brought fish porridge home for her for dinner. Mommy ever the trooper merely shrugged off all the attention told me not to worry and to go home and rest after a hard day of work.

I cant help but feel lousy about everything since that fateful monday morning. This feeling of lousiness hasn't left me till today. Moving out from the family home, living quite a distance away and spending so much time living my own life, .... I dont spend enough time with the people that truly matter, my family, my parents the people that I love.

I seriously need to spend more time with mommy, daddy, bijoux and Yarrl.

Spoke with mom on the phone today, the stitches are due out tomorrow. we can now all breathe a sigh of relief.

Other than the above incident that knocked me off my balance, there were also little projects, discoveries and occurances that upset me all week

Projects :

  • Tank that was broken was not repairable/nor usable it had to be discarded and a new tank custom made. ( additional damage another 400 bucks) , Project : Guppy's first Marine Aquarium had to be grounded till the new tank gets delivered next week.
  • Project Karma has begun and I signed the paperwork to sponsor a little girl from Laos through Worldvision. The program looked sound, and the commitment was so minimal I have to ask all of you my happie gupsters...why dont you sponsor a child too? http://www.worldvision.org.sg/
  • Project Balloon is underway : I undergo surgery on 1 March 2008 at Starcap Medical at 11am, around the same time mom gets her stitches out at Tan Tock Seng Hospital

Discoveries:

  • Things arent what they seem to be, if you have no expectations, you do not get dissapointments. Guppies are not exactly the beacon light of examplary conduct or morality either. Perhaps it might be time to set myself some distance and ween myself off some delightful yet unhealthy addictions. Guppies are designed for deep meaningful relationships not passing superficial distractions.

  • Procrastination thy name is guppy - how on earth are you going to get your powerboat license if you do not study for and take the exams?! I might never get the license to captain a boat and fulfill a little dream just because she is a lazy procrastinator.

Heartbroken

I am sad, mad, upset.

It was a really busy week for me , and it didnt help at all that i caught the flu bug as well. Between the flu bug, a less than sane work week, plus lots of multi tasking, I thought i could look forward to a happy weekend of kick starting my marine fish tank project. Alas things went wrong as we were almost concluding the move!

I was THAT close to success! Aaargh!!

I was so excited and happy when i woke up this morning . I found someone selling his old 4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft fish tank + cabinet online a week ago , found some furniture movers who had advertised online as well and set about coordinating for the tank to be moved from his flat to mine. It was also a cool coincidence that the seller was just living a few blocks away from me :P

It was mission hazard from the start. there were 2 movers only and both me and the seller lived in old flats that did not have elevators that stopped on every floor. the tank and cabinet made it safely out of the sellers place... even safely to my flat just 2 blocks down the road...

But as the movers were getting my precious new acquisition out of the elevator towards my flat, the front left corner got knocked against the elevator door and cracked loudly..hmmm or maybe it was my little heart breaking! *sobs*

My place is a big mess right now. I havent figured out where the other furniture should go ...i guess I will figure things out as things move along.

Buoy brought over the SAND on Friday just before he left for some R&R in Bangkok *jealous*

bits of the sump tank that survived the journey, lamps , piping and parts.

the hinges are rusted, I need to get new hinges

cabinet arrived safely

Damn! I was so close to success! aaaaaargh!

After all that effort! A BIG FAT CRACK !! They HAD to break it! Aaaargh!

I cant afford to run a tank with a crack! what if it leaks? what do i do with it now? get a new tank? repair this tank? sobssss!!! I am so mad sad and upset right now. alll that effort! i want to kick somebody! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!

footnote : porkchop brought me a tub of Haagen Dazs Macadamia nut ice-cream to sooth away the heartache...but it doesnt seem to work this time

this sucks

Lazy weekend...

It's the weekend.

By 9am I was sitting at a little coffeeshop enjoying a delicious wanton noodle breakfast. It was breezy, the noodles were good, my iced tea was refreshing and so was my breakfast company.

I had spotted a really great deal on Yahoo Auctions a few days ago - there was an opportunity to procure a nice 4ft x 2 ft x 2.5ft Tank plus cabinet at a steal! The owner of this tank has decided to give up marine aquarium fishies as a hobby , his loss could be my gain! *trembles with excitement* But I wasn't too experienced about aquarium tanks and I was too chicken to go call on some stranger's home all by myself -so I asked Bouy to come check things out with me. After our wanton brekkie, we zipped off for a quick product inspection and I am pleased to report : The Item for sale is GOOD, i've contracted some professional movers and i am now one more step closer to owning my dream marine aquarium . Stay tuned happie gupsters!

As with all weekends when its off diving season - this little guppy finds herself bored and unsure what to do with herself. I can't sit still at home..I would start thinking about work. the more i think about work , the more worried I get and before I knew it I will find myself in the office! Determined not to waste away a nice weekend of indolence, I decided to stalk Bijoux after her Japanese class in town and we both headed off to Warakau for some Italian + Japanese fusion pasta lunchAfter our satisfying meal we decided retail therapy was in order .

Trapesing through malls is so much fun when you have company ..heeee! We eventually ended up at the Build-A- Bear Workshop at Suntec City Mall .

A Hiro is Born!
First - select your desired bear/bunny/duck/sheep/frog toy for stuffing . I picked the cute floppy eared bunny!
Inject suitable high quality fibre and cotton stuffing into bunny

pick out a heart, cup it in your hands and whisper a wish into it, then rub it against your heart

place little red heart into your newly stuffed friend and Voila! he's alive through your love!

Now to decide WHO your bunny should be

Are you my warly clad Eskimo Bunny out fishing for his dinner?

Hmmm ....

Maybe you are my leather jacket bad boy biker bunny - ala James Dean - Rebel Without A Cause?

Ah!!! Yes! this is you - you are my Japanese Samurai Bunny - missing a samurai sword

"Don't worry mommy, I'll type myself my very own Birth Certificate!"

" Hey whats my name mommy?"

You're my Hiro baby....

Im gonna bring you home, love you , hug you. squeeze you to bits!

I tell you happie gupsters.. I felt like a child all over again. its not the cheapest toy in town but if you are planning on getting a teddy bear for that special little princess in your life ,why not bring her to the Build-A-Bear Workshop? Its really lots of fun!

Adventures in Sushi-Land

Ive been looking forward to this dinner with Abiko all week :D . Yeah she's a tough one to date with over 50% of her time dedicated to Big G ,the rest to her job and all.

We decided to head down to this cool little japanese establishment that serves some of the best Salmon mantei ( Guppy's favourite) and freshest sashimi in town. I was first introduced to this restaurant by my siblings..and i was hooked.

Where is this place you might ask? ...heheheh shhhh its a secret ..but I'll give you a big hint :

If u can guess where we went - then you deserve to enjoy some of the most delicious japanese noshes in town - Oh and did i mention that their sushi were going at 99 cents per plate? yum yum yum!

soon as you step into this simple little restaurant you are greeted by a corridor flanked on both ends with warm orange lights and "bamboo" inspired decor

Hontouni oishi desu yo!

Abiko and Guppiko stare greedily at their bounty of 99 cent sushi

Guppies prefer lilllies

Happy Valentine's Day Happie Gupsters!

Every year come Valentines day, entire colonies of female office dwelling rat racers hold their breaths and await the delivery of bouquets of flowers from their husbands, paramours, lovers, boyfriends, friends (anyone) Yeap you've guessed it - its the annual "Who's got the biggest, coolest, most exquisite -a.k.a most expensive, bunch of blooms" one upmanship contest disguised as - Valentines Day...WOE BETIDE any woman who recieves jewelry delivered to the office in a little baby blue Tiffany's package - she will be THE ultimate most hated woman for the day.

Unfortunately despite heavy lobbying and direct marketing activities declaring my preference for White elegant oriental lillies- this guppy didnt recieve get any flowers sent to her office - boooooooooo. Damn you cheapo na nas!

Yeah yeah call it sour grapes. ... I am one SOUR guppy .. see here pic below.. well this bunch of lovely tulips aren't for me . *sobs* they belong to my colleague , hell almost every girl in my office recieved bouquets of flowers today, everyone except this little guppy (woe!) the office became a veritable nursery of blooms before the lunch bell rang!

Oh well if you can't beat em...Guppies prefer lilllies!

In other happier less jealousy infused bitchy news - Its our company's Lunar New Year Lunch celebrations. Held at the Amara Hotel , we did the traditional Lo Hei stuff and My boss gave me a big ang pow! woohooo!!!

Seeing as my valentines day was virtual a non-event I was pretty much resigned to going home and curling up in front of the teevee with a nice big bowl of instant noodles for dinner when I got a dinner invitation! woohoo!

It's not exactly a valentines dinner posh nosh date kind of scenario ..hah it wasnt even a date . More like a - you got dinner? let's go eat dinner ( I ain't complaining ha ha because that means there's someone else out there that hasn't got a valentine's dinner date so nyeah)

Tada - presenting this year's valentine's day dinner for guppy - hot plate tofu, hot plate venison and stirfried kangkong at some ulu coffeeshop

Alas even this dinner buddy's got a hot date later in the evening (the sweet dessert bit) and abandonded his cute little guppy..sigh! so after dinner i vamoosed home to bask in the warmth and glow of my beloved teevee lights :P pfffffft!

I thought that was the end of my evening adventures. ...Till HE came by with cakes from coffee bean...*giggles* awww Toblerone cake was to die for!

So Rich. So Sweet. So Totally Irresistable.

To my dinner kaki , I wish you love *muah muah*

and to my bearer of sweet cakes. ..where are my darn white lillies? *pouts*

My happie gupsters, I wish u lotsa love too..so how did you spend your valentines day today?
